Instructional Technologies is offering a series of five workshops to prepare instructors to begin teaching on Canvas in Summer and Fall 2023.

Workshops are delivered online (with a few in-person options for Workshop 5).

You can choose to register for "live webinars" that take place at a specific day/time OR register for "recorded webinars" that you can view at a time of your choosing.

Each workshop includes required hands-on homework assignments that instructors must complete on Canvas in order to receive credit for the workshop.

Requirements and sequencing

  • Workshops 1, 2 and 3 are required to gain access to your Summer and/or Fall courses on Canvas.
  • Workshop 1 is a pre-requisite for all other workshops and must be completed first.
  • Workshops 2, 3 and 4 may be taken in any order.
  • Workshop 5 should be taken last, after completing the required workshops (1, 2, and 3).

How to register

Note: Registration for live webinars closes one hour before the workshop begins.

FAQ

I have experience teaching with Canvas -- am I required to complete the training?

  • We are working on a process to allow those with prior Canvas experience to by-pass required trainings by demonstrating their Canvas skills. We expect to have this in place by late March or early April 2023.
  • Meanwhile, let us know at canvashelp@durhamtech.edu if you have questions or want to discuss your situation. And if you want to participate in the trainings, feel free!

Will this training be offered in Summer 2023?

  • Yes. The current schedule runs through late May. Later in Spring we will add more sessions for June and July 2023.
  • By August 2023, we plan to end the "Transition Training" and shift to a training that is appropriate for new instructors (without Sakai experience).
